Bill Baker MRICS
Bill qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1986 with Healey and Baker working in the retail property sector. He then spent six years at Phillips Auctioneers’ Bond Street head office as a valuer of fine art and antique furniture.
From 1994 to 2003 Bill worked for Chubb Insurance specialising in the insurance of high value houses, fine art, jewellery and cars. As European Appraisal Manager he was responsible for a team of surveyors in the UK and continental Europe. Seeing the opportunity for a specialist broker offering bespoke insurance and personal service, he founded Porticus in 2003.
Bill’s background in property, fine art and insurance gives him particularly relevant experience in high value home insurance. In addition to his role as Managing Director, Bill has particular responsibility for marketing and new business which often involves meeting clients assessing values and advising on the most suitable insurance programme.
Bill’s interests include classic cars and rowing. He is a former Great Britain international oarsman and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner. Bill graduated in 1983 from Kingston University with a BSc in Estate Management.
Martin has many years of experience in the insurance industry having worked for the British Nuclear Insurance Pool from 1975 to 2007 in a number of different roles, rising to the position of Underwriting Manager.
In the course of his employment with the Pool he was involved in a number of different aspects of insurance, including both liability and property underwriting and claims handling. Martin also took on responsibility for marine transit liability insurance for the Pool, representing them at international conferences both at home and abroad.
Martin joined Porticus in 2008 and draws on his wealth of experience and communication skills in liaising and building good relationships with both clients and insurers, including dealing with claims.
Martin has a variety of interests including, history, music and football.
Maurice Kelly AAII
Maurice started his career in 1961 with the Royal Insurance, and subsequently a broking company in New Zealand. After a move to Australia in 1968 to join MLC Insurance he qualified as an Associate with the Australian Insurance Institute.
From 1972 to 1983 Maurice worked for Carpenter Locke, an Insurance Attorney, as Chief Underwriter. In 1976 he joined Kemper Reinsurance as General Manager working in their Australian, Bermuda and Singapore offices.Then in 1984 he moved with Kemper Reinsurance to London as General Manager.
1993 saw Maurice move to Reinsurance Corporation Australia, where he worked as Managing Director & Chief Underwriter in their Sydney, Monaco, Miami, Paris and Hong Kong offices.
Maurice left the reinsurance industry in 2000 and worked as an expert witness and consultant in the Insurance industry.
Maurice joined Porticus in October 2012, and brings with him 52 years of experience in various aspects of the global insurance industry.
Maurice’s interests include automobile racing and running.
